Early 19th-century prints, diploma project by Weronika Gąsior from Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń

Two large-format graphic charts depicting universal history, in which the histories of individual nations are visualised as streams flowing from the heavens. They belong to the collection of the Polish Academy of Sciences Kórnik Library; the earlier print, dating from 1803, served as the prototype for the later one from 1839. The prints, executed on a paper substrate, are lined with canvas and mounted on wooden rollers at the top and bottom. Additionally, one of the prints is fitted with an integrated cardboard tube into which it can be rolled.

The conservation and restoration works included, among others:

• disassembly of elements,
• mechanical and structural cleaning (including the cleaning of one print without separating the canvas from the paper),
• deacidification,
• chelation treatment,
• structural reinforcement, lining and rejoining of materials,
• repair of mechanical damage and filling of material losses,
• reconstruction of the missing knob of the print with the tube.

The storage case, made according to the design and guidelines provided by Weronika, ensures safe storage and transport, as well as easy access for further research or exhibition purposes..
