Clamshell box
The clamshell box is a classic, rigid construction which can be used to store various types of objects - from small-sized books to fragile parchment, large-scale maps and plans. The only limiting dimension is the height of the box (spine width in case of books) - it cannot be lower than 25-30 mm due to cardboard rigidity, which makes it impossible to fold it at a lower level. For books with spines thinner than 25 mm, we would recommend the III construction - a folder box with a double wall - or the IVc archival box.
With this construction, the storage can only be horizontal. If boxes are the same size, they can be stacked. The IIc type boxes can be stacked even if they differ in sizes as long as they tightly hold the objects stored in them.
Our clamshell boxes have cutouts for fingers so that they can be opened easily.
